Join us for a spoken word open mic on 12th April. Our guest performers will be ‘the poetry twins’ – Rachel Davies and Hilary Robinson. They are both accomplished poets and their poetry is widely published in journals, anthologies and online. They will be reading from their joint collection of poems ‘An Altogether Different Place’, which explores their experience of living and caring for loved ones with dementia.

April’s Write Out Loud spoken word evening will take place at Bolton Socialist Club on 12 April. Doors 7 pm, start 7.30. Sign up on the door. 14 open mic slots. £2 entry.
Our guest performers will be ‘the poetry twins’ – Rachel Davies and Hilary Robinson. Rachel Davies is widely published in print and online journals. Her poem, ‘I’ll Speak for Pongo Pygmaeus’ was published in Honeyguide (USA; 2021) and subsequently nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She has been a winner in several poetry competitions, most recently the 2024 Hippocrates Prize. Her debut pamphlet, ‘Every Day I Promise Myself,’ was published by 4word Press in 2020.
Hilary Robinson, retired schoolteacher, lives in Saddleworth. Her poetry has been published in journals, anthologies and online. Hilary enjoys collaborating with composers and has written an opera libretto. Her debut pamphlet, ‘Revelation’, was published by 4Word Press in 2021. Her joint collection, ‘An Altogether Different Place’ with Dr Rachel Davies, was published in October 2024 by Beautiful Dragons Press. It deals with caring for a life partner who has developed dementia.

The poetry collection ‘An Altogether Different Place’ will be available to purchase for £9.99 (cash or card), and all the money received will be donated to dementia charities.
