A celebration of Helios in words and music
Thursday 26 November, 17.15-19.15, Bolton Central Library

We’ve celebrated Luke Jerram’s Gaia, the Moon and Mars installations over the last three years, Now it’s the turn of Helios, the Sun. Helios is a seven metre illuminated sculpture, built from hundreds of thousands of NASA solar images to recreate sunspots, swirling solar winds, spicules, filaments, and solar flares. Every 1 cm of the sculpture represents about 2,000 km of the Sun’s surface.

For this celebratory event, Dave Morgan has again invited a cast of well-loved Bolton performers to celebrate the installation in words and music. Contributors will include Helen Walker and Jenny Bryce, Kevin Bates, Lynn Collier Jelly, Dick Perkins, Ian Aspinall and Louise Wilson.

Expect to hear the familiar and the unexpected with poetry and song, science and myth, comedy and drama.

Admission to the event is free and refreshments will be provided.

Helios is accompanied by a soundscape built from NASA recordings, giving visitors an immersive multi-sensory experience and will be on display at the Bolton Central Library during Put Big Light On Festival, 19th to 22nd November. 5pm to 9pm.
